P5(d) Linking Audio to Visuals and Applying Audio Effects

Meaning & Purpose : In this section, I will show how I apply different minor changes to improve the audio effect and the overall outcome.



The music I had used in the advertisement, it is from website of "http://freemusicarchive.org". Everyone can download the music from this website. It is free for everyone. Once I had downloaded my ideal music, I had then imported into the premiere pro

The music I had used is a electronic music. It sounds strong, bold. The key is very compact and its fast melody will give a nervous sense to audience. Therefore I had chosen this music.

The music I download came with a still photo cover. To separated the picture and the audio, double the audio section > unlink. Then it will be available to delete the picture and remain with the audio track. The picture can now be replace by the footage I took.






The original music last about 5 mins, the mins will be too long for my advertisement. Once I had imported to premiere pro and drag it to the track. I had used Razor tool to trim it down to about 90 second. To ensure all the transition were well trimmed, I had only cut down the amount to repeat melody. There were nearly 3 mins of unnecessary part in the music. The music which I placed in audio track 3 is the unnecessary part. I had must the audio track 3 but not delete anything just incase I need those of the unnecessary part.










To end the video, I decided to descend the music and use voice over. By doing that, first I had selected the last 5 second of the soundtrack. Then unlock the " toggle animation ", add keyframe in every 0.2 second. There is about 20 - 25 keyframe in my last 5 second of audio track. Then use select tools to drag the volume in a smooth descend gradient which the outcome will be gently descend every 0.2 second. At the end, the last keyframe will be at 0dB which no music output should be coming out. Using a decreased gradient effect helps me to build a connect to my voice over ending. 

Voice Over




For the Voice over, I had use a Zoom H4N professional sound recorder to record my slogan in a quiet environment. Then I had transferred the folder through SD card. As the original folder is in MP3 format, no further export is require. Therefore I had directly placed it into my short list folder. 

After that I had directly drag it on the audio track, at the end of the music. I had then used razor tool to trim down the unnecessary part of the audio. Once it is finish, place the audio under the slogan. Both of it must be symmetry 




P5(c) Applying Visual Effects and Transitions

Meaning & Purpose : In this section, I will show how I apply different video transition & editing method to achieve different meaning to each scene.

Fast Editing 

As I found a very excellent music sound track online. The music was very bold, tight and fast. To follow the music, most of the video I had used fast cutting effect. Between each frame, there is a black screen in it and the each footage only last for half a second. Combine the music and the video, it carry out a fast, tight editing.

This editing method can carry out a time travel effect to audience. As there are four different scenes in just a second of time. It briefly explain what the actor had done over certain of time in just a second of video. As a result, I doesn't need a long length of video to explain how the storyline build up and make the advertisement video less attractive and exciting.

Dissolve effect 







Between this two footage, I had used a 5 second long additive dissolve transition. The first part of the video is about boxing and the second part is about working out in the gym room. I had pick a Additive dissolve effect and place it at the end of the first video. Extend the effect for nearly 5 second. Double click the effect bar and able to change the rate of  dissolve to form different effect. I had used 20.7% at the first and 88.3% at the second. 

The result of the dissolve effect work perfectly, the long dissolve have a long time travel effect to audience. It builds up an atmosphere to audience that the actor had came a long way to them.





Making good use of the dissolve effect could carry out different result. In this section, the first part of the video is working out at the gym room and the second part is boxing. However I have place a additive dissolve effect at the end of the first video and there is no connection between first and second video. The result is the footage getting dimmer gently > completely black out and bring on to the second part of the video. This technique of editing is also combine with the background music to improve the result.  All the dissolve effect can create a time travel atmosphere to audience. The video only last for 99 second, audience can still experience the whole training process with Bosco through the video.

Adding Words

At the end of the video, I decided to add a slogan and a company logo on top of the footage which represent the company for this advertisement. The slogan I decided to use " Power Gets You Further". Too add typing to the video, first go to "Title". Then set the width and height which match the size of the graphic. Rename the folder as Power.



Once every setting is been adjust, press ok.

The "T" tools I had chosen is the word typing tools. Once I am on the tool, I will be able to type the slogan on top of the video section.



                   
                   
There are lots of different options to choose the style of the text. Colour & gradient changing is also available in the  text box. For my slogan ,I had used the Lithos Pro Light Gold 28 style. I think the colour and style they had offered match the style of the advertisement and the colour of the company logo.


Repeat the similar process to get all the 2 remain slogan done. All the words style of the slogan are all the same. The colour of the slogan are follow the colour of the logo, they are grey, yellow and dark red.

 For the logo of the company, I had created it through photoshop. Then export the image into JPEG format which allow me to import into premiere pro. Once it is exported, saved the JPEG into the shortlist folder where all the renamed all videos are saved. Finally import the JPEG into the film through Premiere Pro.




At the end of the video, I had use a over lapped voice to end the video. After I had recored the speech, I had then converted to MP3 file format and export into Premiere Pro. To ensure the volume is loud and everyone can hear it. I had increase the volume by increase the level of dB. I had increased from 0dB to 6dB, which is now louder than before and easier to listen.

P5(b) Producing and Reviewing an Off Line Edit

Meaning & Purpose : In this section, I will show how I solve some issues in premiere pro, a quick edit on timeline and some minor change compare between the storyboard and the actual scene.



Once the project is been created, I had started to import every video that I am going to use for my video. It saves lots of time by importing the videos all in one. 


On the left side of the premiere pro, I had exported all the videos which I think I will be using in the advertisement. By renaming all the video, it clearly help me to recognised the content of the video.



The first tool was the selection tool, which it allow me to select different items in premiere pro. The sixth tool is cut tools. It allows me to trim the length of the audio and video in the timeline. This two tools are the most common tools that I used for my editing. 


I have placed all the footage into where I want to be, in this earlier stage, I haven't apply any transition effect. Most of the video at the beginning part will be mainly gym exercise, boxing and outdoor heavy duty workout. In the middle, it is mostly running. For the ending scene, it is the scene between the actor and the coach. 


While my rough cutting begins, there were quite a few issue with my video. The problem that I had faced a lot is the premiere pro cannot detect my footage is my shot list. There is a media offline photo appear on the screen when I chose that specific video.




To solve this offline problem of my video, I have to pick that specific video than right click it. Choose "Link Media" to link the footage. Choose the video that relate in that timeline. Once it is been chosen, the graphic of the video will be fixed and re-appear again. This problem occur can relate to renaming after the project is been started.

Scene Changed 



Before the filming process begin, I had drew different shot that I am going to take in the storyboard. One of my shot was using a high fps to film my actor running across the astro, then use slow motion effect for the editing. However when I was filming in the astro, I just realised that cannon 7D camera was only able to choose between 24 and 25 fps for filming. I had quickly abandoned my idea and use pan movement instead. I had placed the camera on top the tripod then swipe the camera from right to left. The outcome was really good and I thought it will be better than using slow motion, as all the scene were shot normally and suddenly there is a scene using a slow motion. It will look weird and the outcome may not be that good.



Here is another example that I had changed the idea from my storyboard. From my original idea, I was meant to shoot my actor punching the sandbag with a horizontal camera angle. Then when I was actually filming in the squash centre, I just realised that there was nothing to hang the sandbag up. I have to abandoned my idea and use the punch pad holding my the coach instead. The outcome of the footage was very similar to the idea I was thinking originally. 

I had seted the aperture just right to create the depth field effect in the video. The focus point is mainly to the actor and the punch pad is mostly blurred. It makes it less noticeable to audience.
